3D printing price in Singapore: what decides it

A 3D print price depends mostly on the time the printer runs, the work around each print and the plastic a part uses. Size, layer height and strength can all change the print time and the plastic. You can bring your own print price down, and you can see it before you commit.

How much does 3D printing cost in Singapore?

It depends on your part, so there is no one price. A small keychain and a large box can cost very different amounts, because their size, print time and plastic differ. To see the print price for your own part, upload your file and open the page with your print price.

The print price is worked out from the material used, the machine time and the work to print it. Supports are in the print price.

Why is 3D printing so expensive?

Most 3D printers build a part one thin layer at a time, so a part can keep a printer busy for hours. You pay for that machine time and for the work around each print, as well as the plastic. For a small or medium part, the plastic is usually less than half of the print price.

The printer also uses power and wears out, so its time has a real cost. Someone also has to set up, start and finish every print.

Is 3D printing priced by the gram?

Not at Makerlane. Weight is only one part of the print price, because the printer's time and the work around each print count too. A small part usually costs more for its weight than a big one, because some of the work is the same whatever the size.

What makes one print cost more than another?

Mostly size, print time and plastic. A bigger part usually has more layers and more plastic, so the printer runs longer. Fine layers, a stronger setting, supports and colour changes add plastic or time too. Twice the width, depth and height means eight times the volume, so plastic and printing time usually grow by far more than double.

Layer height is how thick each layer is, and thinner layers look smoother and take longer. Strength sets how much plastic goes inside the part, called infill, and how many walls it has. Settings run from Light to Solid, and stronger usually means more plastic and more time.

Supports are temporary pillars under overhangs, and they use plastic and time. A print in several colours can cost more, because each colour change wastes some plastic and takes time.

Each extra copy usually costs less than the first, because the setup is shared. On a very small print, a setting may not change the print price at all, because small prints are topped up to a minimum print price. The top-up shows as its own line.

How can I bring my print price down?

Use less plastic and less printing time. Make the part smaller if you can, pick a lighter strength for a part that is only for display, and use a thicker layer when fine detail matters less. Try each one and watch the print price.

Cut the supports. Printing the flattest face down often needs fewer supports. The upload check suggests a better side when one helps, and Pro mode lets you turn the model yourself.

Use fewer colours, and choose PLA when the part will not get warm, because PETG usually prints more slowly and can cost more. Print copies together, and put several parts in one order, because some of the setup is shared. Keep Strong or Solid for parts that get handled a lot or knocked, because a part that fails usually costs more than the saving.

How do I check my print price before I commit?

Upload your file and open the page with your print price. It shows your model's size, whether it needs supports, the print time and the grams of plastic, as well as the print price. Change a setting and the print price updates.

The print price you lock never goes up. You see the handling fee and delivery before you pay, and nothing is added after you pay. Ready to try it? See your print price in seconds at makerlane.sg.
